Chicago Underground Duo - Hyperglyph

Chicago Underground Duo — the collaborative project of composer/trumpeter/synthesist Rob Mazurek and composer/percussionist Chad Taylor — return with Hyperglyph, their first album in over a decade. Emerging from nearly thirty years of creative partnership, the record reflects a deep musical bond continually shaped by their individual explorations and shared history.

Mazurek and Taylor have worked together across multiple ensembles, including the Exploding Star Orchestra, and expanded formations of the Chicago Underground project with longtime collaborator Jeff Parker. Their early Duo recordings were formative in fusing avant-jazz with electronics and indie rock, contributing significantly to the experimental Chicago scene that included projects like Isotope 217 and their frequent collaborators in Tortoise.

Hyperglyph marks another shift in the Duo’s evolution — a document of change and continuity, pulsing with the same restless creativity that has always defined their work. The album captures the essence of two artists whose friendship and musical language have matured across decades, collapsing boundaries between improvisation, rhythm, and abstraction.
