Adebowale and the Pioneers - Kilofese

Adebowale and The Pioneers with Kilofese on vinyl, cracking afrobeat!

Former Egypt 80 baritone saxophonist Adebowale Osunnibu steps forward on Kilofese, working with a younger generation of Lagos musicians to keep Afrobeat moving. Rooted in the music of Fela Kuti and Tony Allen, the album runs on forceful vocals, surging horns and hard funk rhythms, from the slow-building ‘AJO’ to the rapid-fire title track. Meaning “do what you want to do” in Yoruba, Kilofese tackles government control and oppression while celebrating freedom, culture and joy. It’s classic Lagos Afrobeat with plenty of fire in its belly.
